Scott Cline Memorial Regatta : October 2 - 3, 2021

It’s hard to believe we are already well into the Fall Follies series which will be the final series of our racing season. The season has been great and has gone far too quickly. Not only has the sailing been fun and competitive, the weather has been amazing with consistent winds and pleasant temperatures. It’s been the kind of season that reminds us why we love this sport.

As the days grow shorter, the weather gets crisper, and the racing season draws to a close, we look forward to our season’s final regatta October 3-4, The Scott Cline Memorial Regatta. Come join us as we honor the legacy of Scott Cline, our friend and fellow sailor, who did much to promote sailing here in Oak Harbor.

This is a fun regatta with an afternoon of buoy racing on Saturday and a distance race to Baby Island on Sunday (subject to change). There will also be an amazing dinner downstairs in the club following racing on Sunday which is free to skippers and crew! A skipper’s meeting will be held at the top of the dock at 10:30 am October 3rd. Racing starts at noon!

Come out for the last OHYC regatta of the year! Wear lots of orange to honor Scott.

Hope to see you there!

...a bit about Scott

Scott Cline was truly a sailing ambassador. Scott first approached Shannon Buys and I over 15 years ago to invite us to “round the buoys” with the racing fleet. Both Shannon and I were new to sailing and racing was the last thing on our minds. We just wanted to survive each time we went out sailing. Nevertheless, we trusted Scott as he encouraged us to try it. Each time we did, he would offer up sound advice in which we would apply the next week. As time went on, we got better and faster as a team. His enthusiasm was infectious, and we quickly found ourselves loving his sport.

Fast forward until now, we look back on how many lives Scott touched by his acts of kindness. After Scott passed on, we took on his mission to pay it forward and encourage others in the sport of sailing. There are countless sailors in the local region who were affected by Scott and others he reached. The OHYS program was his passion and thanks to his contributions, the program continues to be a success in teaching young future sailors.

In 2017, the OHYC Sail Fleet started the Windseeker program to further Scott’s goal of inviting others to join us in “rounding the buoys”.

This regatta is dedicated to Scott Cline.

Wear your orange to honor Scott as it was his favorite color.

See you on the water!
